This is Virtual Machines Pt. 2. This time, we’re going to dive deeper into the world of virtualization and start messing with Type 1 Hypervisors like Proxmox, ESXi..etc. You can take any old laptop or PC and convert it into a Virtual Machine power house!! We’ll go through a complete Proxmox install, and touch on why we didn’t use vmware.

  2. Nice and very detailed video, i was just wondering about the network info, you mentioned static ip adress under the network management section. Are there pros and or cons to either?

  3. Took a 2 core 1.3ghz 4 GB ram laptop I had lying around and followed all these steps. worked great. I don't even have a need for the capability, but watching you made it seem so easy I had to try. Greetings from Houston!

  4. I think your enthusiasm comes from cofee! Is it brazilian cofee???

  5. you are the only thing on the internet and life that is keeping me going on this journey. I'm gonna have to make my own business using the things iv learned from you since there is not ONE SINGLE JOB IN WESTERN MASS. it's wonderful. I got a suit and nice shoes but I'm immediately judged by the car I drive and my hair. it's very much an uncontrollable afro. I watch your videos every day and I try to learn something new. I hope to one day have a business that shows people the vulnerabilities in their networks and employ people at a living wage of 20$ an hour. Thank you for keeping me hopeful.

  6. I saved this video last week to watch and do as it says when I'm available. And that's now! Let's do it! I LOVE YOU MAN <3

  7. I see you have your proxmox install on an "extra" laptop. Ie you used another laptop/pc to connect to it. Would it be possible to run the gui etc on the installed machine? I only have one laptop. So I want to install and run various VM off the one laptop, not have a seperate dedicated one. I hope this makes sense and any help would be appreciated!

  8. Love the channel, love the learning curve for a semi_noob. I think education is your calling!

  9. Surprise surprise it can run docker and you can install it right now with apt install docker.io i would recommend installing portainer or something to manage docker

  10. I bought a server Lenovo Thinstation with the following specs 2X 3.16 Xeon processes 64GB RAM 6X Intel 500GB SSD in a rack inside when I looked.

  11. For the very Noob out there, just bc you have your ethernet cable plugged in does NOT mean proxmox will detect your IPs automatically for you lol 😆 I tried them. Lol you have to input your stuff in weather you are ethernetttted in already or not, hope that save somebody some headache 😅

Love the videos Chuck, I'm in Houston we otta get some coffee sometime!

  12. In reply to the ones who liked before watching: I subscribed before watching. Beat that.

  13. So does this only work as a remote server? I am interested in using a type 1 hypervisor on my main computer.

  14. Proxmox tip: double click the VM name in the left menu and you get a new window with the console in actual size. You can set the default screen size on a VM in the Proxmox VM settings – hit del when starting the VM.

  15. @ 6:40, don't tempt them. I went from an old business desktop to a Ryzen 3900x, Dell R720, 2x Dell R320…

Just whatever you do, don't visit r/homelab.

  16. I have used many Hypervisors over the years and have become an avid fan of Proxmox over the last 6 months!!

  17. I just set up proxmox on my old laptop! Thanks for this excellent networking lab Chuck. 👏👏👏

  18. Nice Video Chuck , I've been using Proxmox on enterprise for 5 years . I had to switch from exoensive Vmware and its amazing.

  19. Literally all of my VMs are installed to local-lvm. Why do you think it takes the vast majority of storage out of the box?

  20. You asked for how fast my internet is and that rolled me back to the times when i have struggled with it.

That made me wondering, if i can fix my own things and i decided to ask you back:

If you been having internet problems, have you tried to troubleshoot your own network or most of the work relies (rely) on the IPS?
Answer please and sorry if there are some mistakes in the grammar xd

  21. Lol… I get no faster than 980 kbs/s, often goes as low as 700 kb/s. Hoping that that new infrastructure bill, will allow me to upgrade, as there are no options to do so where I live. Other than perhaps Starlink.

  22. man im a noob and I left all the IP and hos FQDN stuff as is because I had my ethernet hooked up already, im guessing I shouldnt have done that because I cant get to it via the web, how do I edit this and what should I be using for all that stuff lol?

  23. Ummm…MacOS? The obvious question omitted–cmon chuck!

  24. if NetworkChuck and TechnoTim collaborated on this topic I'd have a sensational overload

  25. I'm pulling my hair out lol I follow to the t… but I'm getting a failed to run vncproxy and it wont luanch the VM console stating faild to connect to server. great video but I'm lost in the sauce right now….I am not connected to the internet I have a sonic wall pushing DHCP to a open Cisco switch I have my proxmox server and the remote PC plugged in I am pulling rhcp for the remote PC and can ping all devices and gateway. The only thing that I see that may be an issue is the sonic wall is showing only the remote pc in the pool. Should what have I broken?¡!!
